Crestron Products Meet Several “Green” Standards: LEED, RoHS, ASHRAE

November 09, 2006 - Crestron, the global leader in advanced control and automation technology for commercial and residential solutions, announces that its products and automation solutions meet ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, providing additional credits toward Green Certification. Additionally, Crestron products are in compliance with the European Union (EU) Directive 202/95/EC Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). Crestron is dedicated to the “green” initiative, modifying its product line over the past eighteen months to provide the most energy efficienct and environmental safe systems on the planet.

While the U.S. has not passed Federal legislation requiring “green” compliance, Crestron took the initiative to re-engineer its products to meet RoHS and ASHRAE standards, and qualify for LEED certification credits. Crestron actively promotes building facilities that are environmentally responsible and energy efficient.

“As industry leaders, we have a responsibility to our community to be good corporate citizens, and to provide the best products and solutions for our dealers,” says Randy Klein, Crestron Executive Vice President. “We are committed to deliver solutions for our dealers to meet the needs and expectations of every client and every project. Hopefully, architects and consultants will design ”green“ buildings more often in the future and Crestron will be there to contribute.”

Several Crestron products including CLX-Series and iLux lighting systems, CHV-TSTAT thermostats, C2N-SDC shade controls and 2-Series control systems are designed to operate efficiently, replacing several products and drawing less power.

Crestron solutions offer significant energy savings by providing daylight harvesting and automating lights, drapes, thermostats and sprinklers/fountains based on daylight, time, motion, occupancy, temperature, humidity and other conditions. By integrating the disparate environmental systems, efficiencies are increased exponentially. Using RoomView remote management software, AV components, lights and thermostats may be monitored and controlled remotely from any computer.

Crestron lighting systems, such as iLux CLS-C6, is also compliant with ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004 --- Energy Standard for Buildings, and specifically the Mandatory Provisions 9.4.1.1 (b) and (c) regarding the use of an occupant sensor that turns the lights off within 30 minutes after leaving the space, and a control system that indicates that an area is unoccupied. iLux also complies with Provision 9.4.1.4, which pertains to the control of display, accent, task and demonstration lighting.

The RoHS directive mandates that all products sold into the EU must significantly curtail the use of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers. Per the directive, the maximum allowed concentration by weight in homogeneous materials is 0.1 percent for each material, with the exception of Cadmium, which is 0.01 percent. Crestron products shipped within the U.S. and worldwide meet the same environmental standards.

For 35 years Crestron has been the world’s leading manufacturer of advanced control and automation systems, innovating technology and reinventing the way people live and work. Offering integrated solutions to control audio, video, computer, IP and environmental systems, Crestron streamlines technology, improving the quality of life for people in corporate boardrooms, conference rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, and in their homes.

Crestron’s leadership stems from its dedicated people who are committed to providing the best products, programs and services in the industry.

In addition to its World Headquarters in Rockleigh, New Jersey, Crestron has sales and support offices throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Australia.
