EDS Selected to Support Anti-Fraud Program at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

08 Nov 2006 - HERNDON, Va. – Today, EDS announced it was awarded two task orders supporting anti-fraud activities at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition to the one-year base term, each task order includes four one-year options. If all options are exercised on both task orders, the value of the contracts is estimated at $120 million.

The task orders were awarded under the Medicare Prescription Drug Integrity Contractor (MEDIC) indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract, awarded in 2005.

For the One Program Integrity task order, EDS will consolidate all data warehousing and analytics for contractors and others responsible for detecting fraud and abuse related to CMS programs. As part of this effort, EDS will develop and implement a data repository; load state Medicaid data into the repository; implement analytics solutions to present the data to users; and develop and implement a web portal to allow users convenient and secure access to the data. EDS’ web portal and analytics will also support access to CMS’ integrated data repository, which houses Medicare data.

“Regional contractors who ensure that Medicaid and Medicare payments are made for the correct amount to the appropriate recipients will have a simpler method to access information and make data comparisons,” said Don Picard, vice president, EDS Civilian Healthcare. “CMS will not have to maintain multiple tools and data warehouses for information related to claims for inpatient care, professional services and prescription drugs.”

Under the terms of the MEDIC North Region task order, EDS will support CMS audit, oversight and anti-fraud and abuse efforts associated with Medicare prescription drug program in 25 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The task order builds on EDS’ experience as a contractor to CMS since 1999, fighting fraud and abuse related to benefits for inpatient/outpatient healthcare services, durable medical equipment, and regional home health intermediary services.

“With the support of EDS, CMS will increase its ability to identify those who attempt to abuse Medicare and Medicaid benefits,” said Jim Duffey, general manager EDS U.S. Public Sector. “These task orders expand upon EDS’ longstanding partnership with CMS.”
