UK Consultancy’s Data Center Practice Deepens Symantec’s IT Risk Management Services

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Nov. 6, 2006 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Company-i, a UK-based professional services firm that specializes in addressing key challenges associated with operating and managing a data center in the financial services industry. The acquisition furthers Symantec Global Services’ capability to help clients manage IT risk and cost, particularly in the data center.

Corporate boards and executive management teams are focusing on reducing operational risk to ensure resilient business operations, trusted brands, and compliance with evolving regulations. In order to do so, these companies are turning to Symantec for help with IT risk management – balancing the costs and risks of technology. And, currently, there are significant opportunities to improve IT risk and cost levels in the data center.

“We’re very excited about the people and services that Company-i brings to Symantec. Company-i’s consultants understand the data center,” said Greg Hughes, executive vice president, Global Services, Symantec. “They help large enterprises reduce IT risk and costs by reducing infrastructure complexity, improving service management, and increasing automation.”

With data centers now managing petabytes of data, Symantec is increasingly asked by clients for assistance architecting and running these complex IT infrastructures in a way that reduces operational risks. This acquisition uniquely positions Symantec to meet such requests.

“Symantec’s Global Services strategy around managing IT risk makes them a trusted advisor for addressing critical data center challenges,” said Mark Pennycook, CEO, Company-i. “Symantec is an ideal environment for our professionals to continue focusing on our clients’ needs and priorities.”

Company-i will join Symantec’s Global Services organization as part of its global consulting business. The Company-i team will help to extend the capacity and capability of Symantec’s EMEA services team and plans to focus initially on helping UK-based clients address critical data center challenges. The transaction is expected to close in the following weeks.
