Elsevier Launches New "Trials from Resource-Limited Settings" section within Current Therapeutic Research: Clinical and Experimental

WEBWIRE

Bridgewater, NJ, November 6, 2006 – Elsevier, the publishers of Current Therapeutic Research: Clinical and Experimental, a peer-reviewed, rapid publication of original medical and pharmaceutical reports serving an international audience of scientists and clinicians, announces a new section within the journal titled, “Trials from Resource-Limited Settings”.

Much of the research published today fails to address the needs of the areas hardest hit by epidemics such as HIV. For example, while more than two thirds of the HIV-infected population lives in Africa, only 0.2% of research published in the top 50 biomedical journals comes from that continent. Language and publication bias are pervasive across all medical disciplines.

However, with “Trials from Resource-Limited Settings,” CTR now makes the inclusion of articles from resource-limited settings a key priority. It is hoped that this new addition will have an impact on therapeutic research efforts far beyond resource-limited settings. The publishers of CTR expect that this direction of focus will build on the inherent strengths of the journal while contributing in a significant way to the medical literature.

CTR will continue its commitment of working with authors to refine manuscripts and ensure that well-designed studies are published. As always, the publisher and medical editors will not only collaborate with the authors to standardize formatting and clarify study design and methods but also provide significant assistance to authors for whom English is a second language.
