Combined Solution Delivers Cost Savings and Scalable IP Telephony

BASKING RIDGE, N.J and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV) and Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that Dan Schwartz Realty, one of the largest real estate brokerage firms in the Phoenix metropolitan area, is leveraging best-in-class IP telephony and security solutions from Avaya and Juniper Networks to provide company-wide employee access to business-critical voice and data applications.

By combining the Avaya IP Office solution with the Juniper Networks J-series routers and firewall/IPsec virtual private network (VPN) security appliances, Dan Schwartz Realty is increasing employee productivity and its responsiveness to customers through secure communications across headquarter, remote and home office locations. Avaya IP Office is a highly secure, flexible converged voice and data system for small and medium locations.

“Dan Schwartz Realty is on the forefront of IP convergence, utilizing industry leading products for its next generation telephony solution,” said Darren Patoni, president and CEO of The I.T. Workshop, a certified member of Avaya’s BusinessPartner program and Juniper J-Partner. “Through our relationship with Avaya and Juniper Networks, Dan Schwartz Realty was able to select best-in-class products ensuring they received a highly robust and scalable voice solution, while maintaining a lower total cost of ownership when compared with traditional public switched telephone network voice services. They decided to deploy the Avaya IP Office and the Juniper J-series routers because of the products’ ease of use and ability to be managed remotely by our staff.”

Working with The I.T. Workshop, Dan Schwartz Realty integrated a secure converged communications solution from Juniper Networks and Avaya into its existing network for a cost effective VoIP deployment with ongoing management and maintenance provided by The I.T. Workshop.

“Because our offices and employees are distributed throughout the Phoenix area, we required a solution that could quickly and easily connect them regardless of their location,” said Duane Fouts, CEO and president, Dan Schwartz Realty. “Juniper Networks and Avaya provided something different from all other vendors by delivering a solution that could securely connect our employees and scale to meet our business needs without requiring significant additional investment or re-working the network.”

Avaya IP Office is a converged communication system that enables businesses to deploy full featured traditional voice functionality and migrate to IP according to their individual pace. The solution includes integrated voice and IP applications, with customer contact and mobility capabilities. Avaya has sold more than 80,000 IP Office systems to companies worldwide.

As an integral part of the solution, Dan Schwartz Realty relies on the Juniper Networks J-series routers which leverage the JUNOS operating system to manage VoIP protocols traversing the network. The J-series routers also make use of comprehensive QoS functions to classify, prioritize and schedule traffic with multiple levels of security for reliability and performance.

To ensure security, which was a critical component of Dan Schwartz Realty’s network, the company chose a number of Juniper Networks firewall/IPsec VPN appliances throughout their offices including the Secure Services Gateway (SSG) 520, NetScreen-50/25 and 5-GT models. Capable of handling small data packets associated VoIP protocols, Juniper’s NetScreen firewall/VPNs allow data to traverse the network with low latency while maintaining voice quality, performance and security. In addition, the IPSec VPN protocols embedded in all Juniper Networks security appliances dynamically open and close ports, enabling active security features to help protect calls from eavesdropping and tampering.

In a set of related announcements earlier this week, Avaya and Juniper Networks introduced new products and solutions designed to further address the needs of branch office deployments.

Juniper Networks announced the new J4350 and J6350 routers, which are the latest additions to its J-series line of enterprise routing platforms. The Juniper J4350 and J6350 J-series routers are IP telephony-ready and provide up to Gigabit Ethernet performance for enterprise remote, branch and regional offices. Avaya announced the Avaya IG550 Branch Networking Solution that utilizes these new IP Telephony-ready J-series modules (see related announcements titled: “Juniper Networks Announces Strategy for the Enterprise Branch” and “Avaya and Juniper Networks Extend Strategic Alliance with Integrated Branch Networking Solutions”).
