PALO ALTO, CA -- 11/15/2004 -- Nanosys, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded new government contracts from various government agencies that collectively total $1.2 million. These new contracts come from government agencies such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR).

The contracted programs will focus on the development of products that incorporate Nanosys’ proprietary inorganic nanotechnology for use in solid-state lighting, high-performance biological and medical coatings, and electronic systems such as displays, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags and phased-array antennas.

Including the previously announced contracts with DARPA and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Nanosys will receive approximately $5 million from government contracts over the next 12 months with additional potential funding of over $18 million over the next few years.

“We continue to be successful in building our corporate and government partnerships over a broad array of applications,” said Calvin Chow, Nanosys’ Chief Executive Officer. “This has allowed us to increase our focus and resources towards advancing our core technology platform, which in turn has accelerated our development progress across all of our programs.”
