Instrument Reliability and Service Responsiveness Key Factors

Mundelein, Illinois, October 24, 2006 – Sysmex America, Inc. today announced that LifeShare Blood Centers has selected the Sysmex XE-2100D automated hematology analyzers for use in its Shreveport and Lake Charles Louisiana blood centers, said John Kershaw, President, Sysmex America. Sysmex instrument reliability, performance and our service responsiveness were key considerations for LifeShare, whose mission is to efficiently and cost-effectively provide quality whole blood, blood components and related services for patients, added Kershaw. The network of LifeShare Blood Centers serves dialysis centers, surgical centers, area hospitals and extended care facilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The XE-2100D will be used by LifeShare for quality control testing of prepared components such as red cells and platelet apheresis to ensure that the components deliver the expected therapeutic benefit. The analyzer rapidly and accurately measures parameters such as hemoglobin, hematocrit (direct) and platelet count and has extended linearity capabilities. These parameters are required for the concentrated cell preparations that make up component therapy.

“Currently, over 170,000 units of blood components are transfused to patients in 130 facilities in LifeShare Blood Centers’ service area. While highly reliable instruments such as the Sysmex XE-2100D are critical to meeting this demand, we believe the real partnership success between our companies has been Sysmex America’s focus, communication and customer responsiveness to the unique needs of our blood centers,”said Trudie Allen, MBA, ART, CLS, Laboratory Director, LifeShare Blood Centers. “In times of community crisis such as we experienced during last year’s Hurricanes Katrina and Rita when transfusion needs were heightened, it is reassuring to know that Sysmex America is and will be as fully committed to our blood centers as it is to the clients we serve,” she added.

According to a recent IMV ServiceTrak™ survey, Sysmex hematology instrumentation ranks the industry’s best in reliability, performance, first-time fix rates and tracks a 64% success rate in diagnosing instrument issues on the phone and a 59% success rate of solving instrument issues on the phone. IMV ServiceTrak™, conducted by an independent research company that analyzes science-based instrument industries, surveyed more than 1,600 randomly chosen clinical laboratory health care professionals from varying hospital sizes across the country.
