Oracle Database 10g Uniquely Enables Geospatial Innovation

ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 23, 2006 – Oracle® today announced a multiyear, worldwide agreement with NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, to incorporate its boundary mapping data into Oracle® Database 10g and other Oracle products. Including the NAVTEQ data will enable customers to more easily location-enable their critical business applications to reduce costs and increase productivity and revenue opportunities.

In today’s global business environment, organizations are seeking to gain a competitive advantage by coupling geospatial data with enterprise data originating from applications such as supply chain, customer relationship management and planning and risk assessment. By including NAVTEQ’s geographic data -- administrative boundaries for countries, states and cities, as well as major highways and roads -- with Oracle Database 10g, customers can expect their own pre-packaged map framework against which they can view and analyze all customer, sales and asset data. Including NAVTEQ’s geographic data with the database makes it easier than ever for customers to leverage the capabilities of Oracle Spatial 10g, Oracle Locator, Oracle Application Server 10g MapViewer, and future Oracle products that may make use of geographic data. NAVTEQ plans to offer additional map and demographic products such as street networks, zip codes and industry specific data sets to Oracle users who will benefit from more detailed datasets.

“NAVTEQ and Oracle have a strong relationship and commitment to delivering superior solutions for location intelligence, routing and GIS,” said Roy Kolstad, Vice President and General Manager – Business and Government Solutions, NAVTEQ. “By using NAVTEQ’s comprehensive features and functionalities, Oracle customers can boost efficiencies and control costs, while improving customer service and uncovering revenue opportunities.”

For nearly five years, Oracle and NAVTEQ, a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork, have been collaborating to simplify and expand the use of map data in commercial, public sector and business intelligence applications. NAVTEQ map data can be incorporated into Oracle Database 10g’s native format and schema using transportable tablespaces, removing the time consuming process of loading and formatting the data. With this agreement, Oracle and NAVTEQ are providing Oracle Database 10g users with the mapping data required for implementing spatial applications out-of-the-box.

“As business applications continue to become more sophisticated, global digital map data will become increasingly more important for application development,” said Andy Mendelsohn, senior vice president of Database Server Technologies, Oracle. “No other database vendor includes world map data of this caliber in terms of scope, accuracy and business value. Customers and partners have always relied on Oracle to deliver the highest availability, performance, scalability, security, and ease of use for their spatial applications, and now can count on NAVTEQ’s administrative boundary data to provide an even more complete development and deployment environment.”
