Motorola Awarded Contract For TETRA Public Safety Network in Iceland

Immediate roll-out begins for a countrywide digital system planned for operational use by end of 2007

Basingstoke, UK – 23 October 2006 - Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced it has been awarded the contract to deploy a public safety communications network for Iceland. The contract is with Neydarlinan 112[1], a public company majority owned by the Icelandic government. The digital communications network, built on the TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) standard, will be used by all the emergency and public safety services in Iceland.

The contract covers the complete replacement of the analogue systems currently used in Iceland. The users of the new TETRA network will include public safety agencies, power and other utilities operators and the public and private transportation sectors. All users will benefit from a secure and flexible system that will improve both inter- and cross-agency communication and play a vital role in helping to protect the country and its people. Motorola’s Dimetra® IP TETRA infrastructure is used around the world to meet mission critical needs, enabling instant communications and rapid and effective response.

Thorhallur Olafsson, Managing Director of Neydarlinan 112, said: “We are proud to be driving the implementation of Iceland’s national public safety telecommunication network, which will be crucial to the Icelandic government’s new homeland security measures being implemented to prepare for the departure of the US forces that have traditionally provided civil protection services. Protecting our citizens is the most important duty of our government, and the selection of Motorola’s universally trusted and proven mission-critical solutions will help us realize that responsibility.”

Per Lundmark, Director of Sales, Networks & Enterprise, Motorola Nordic, said: “By the end of next year, Iceland will have a best-in-class national communications network that will not only enhance the security of the community but will bring benefits to the public and enterprise markets too. We are delighted to be enabling this significant advance for the nation.”

The award for the national Icelandic network comes as Motorola celebrates ten years of TETRA technology, having signed the world’s first commercial TETRA contract in 1996.
