Advanstar Technology Group announced today that five of the exhibitors at the AIIM ON DEMAND Conference and Exposition will support the Declaration of Education Program by digitally printing and binding up to 10,000 books to donate to Philadelphia-area schoolchildren. The three-day demonstration, called Books for Kids, which will be located in booth #3801, will occur as part of AIIM ON DEMAND, May 17-19, 2005, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

“This program is an incredible example of how technology can help positively impact everyday lives,” said Kerry Gumas, vice president of Advanstar Technology Group. “By integrating specialized print and on-demand technologies, we can demonstrate the exciting future of our industry while contributing to the futures of our children.”

The innovative program is being produced in coordination with the School District of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia School Reform Commission. The exhibitors producing and contributing the books are Weyerhaeuser, Oce, Lasermax Roll Systems, MBO America, and Muller Martini Corp. Each company will provide specialized products and processes integral to the program (see “About Technology” section below).

Books produced during the event will be donated to District students, providing them with quality reading materials to enjoy outside the classroom. Literary classics “War of the Worlds,” “The Odyssey” and “Frankenstein” are among the titles selected to be printed and donated.

“On behalf of the School Reform Commission and the School District of Philadelphia I would like to thank AIIM ON DEMAND and their exhibitors for their donation and for supporting the Declaration of Education,” said James Nevels, Chairman of the School Reform Commission. “These books are a welcome addition to our students’ education because they can take the texts home to enjoy.”

Books for Kids will also expose visitors of the AIIM ON DEMAND Conference & Expo to in-line digital book production firsthand, offering a real-time demonstration of how rolls of paper can be transformed into commercial quality books in one seamless pass. The continuous process will span a 50-by-70 foot exhibit space, digitally printing thousands of soft cover books on-demand.

Experts representing the partners will also be on hand throughout the event to walk visitors through the display area and explain the various technologies responsible for making the overall process a success.

AIIM ON DEMAND is North America’s largest enterprise IT event, attracting more than 20,000 attendees, encompassing both the AIIM and ON DEMAND conferences and expositions.
