Questra-based Presstek Guardian Support Delivers Secure Remote Service to Short-run Color Printers

Commercial, Quick, and In-plant Printers Worldwide Rapidly Adopt Intelligent Device Management Solution to Improve Productivity

GraphExpo, Chicago, October 16, 2006 – Questra Corporation, the leader in Intelligent Device Management (IDM), announced that Presstek, a leading manufacturer and marketer of high-tech digital imaging solutions for the graphic arts and laser imaging markets, has officially launched its secure Questra-based remote service, Presstek Guardian Support.

“We made the decision to work with Questra based on their experience and reputation in our industry for handling sensitive information in a secure fashion and for providing a modular approach to IDM,” said Joseph D. Musgrave, vice president of service at Presstek. “That decision is paying off. We are tailoring Questra’s support functionality to our and our customers’ needs and have already seen a substantial improvement in productivity. For example, we were having some difficulty resolving an issue for one of our Brazilian customers due to differences in language and time zones. We sent the customer Presstek Guardian Support, they installed it, and we were able to resolve the issue that day.”

Since a soft launch in January, Presstek has deployed Presstek Guardian Support on more than 150 Presstek DI presses, Vector TX52 and Dimension chemistry-free computer-to-plate systems, and Digital PlateMaster solutions in America, Australia, Brazil, and Canada. The company has already witnessed a reduction in support costs through enhanced visibility and access into remote systems, with a decrease in average overall resolution times and on-site service visits. Customers have welcomed the opportunity to reduce the amount of possible downtime through secure Internet-based remote monitoring, diagnostics, and service.

“One of the reasons we chose Questra was the high level of security inherent in their approach to remote service,” said Stephen Anderson, manager of technical support at Presstek. “The Questra IDM Application Suite has built-in support for IT security mechanisms, allowing secure deployment in diverse firewall configurations. Presstek Guardian Support’s security assurances have expedited its acceptance and use by our customers.”

“The addition of Presstek as a customer underscores the strength of Questra’s experience and leadership in the graphics imaging market,” said Walt Rossi, vice president of marketing at Questra. “As the business value of IDM-based remote service becomes widely recognized throughout discrete and process manufacturing, the rate of deployment is accelerating rapidly.”
