New WXC 590 Platform, WXOS and WX Central Management System Software Increase Application Performance, Ensure High Availability and Deliver Advanced Network Visibility and Intelligence

SUNNYVALE, Calif., October 16, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced the new WXC 590 WAN application acceleration platform and the newest versions of the WXTM operating system (WXOS) v5.4 and WX Central Management SystemTM (CMSTM) v5.4 software. The Juniper WAN application acceleration (WX/WXC) platforms accelerate applications between data center locations and branch offices, delivering faster response times for users accessing data center resources.

Last week, Juniper announced it has been positioned in the “Leaders” quadrant of Gartner’s recently released report: Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers, 2006. A leading worldwide research and advisory firm, Gartner evaluated vendors according to a strict set of criteria focused on vision, ongoing execution and product breadth. As the newest addition to the Juniper data center solution, the WXC 590 platform helps enterprises meet key IT initiatives - data center consolidation, web-enablement of applications, data replication and backup, implementation of high availability architectures and regulatory compliance. The WXC 590 platform delivers new features that further accelerate application performance, ensure high availability and deliver advanced network visibility and intelligence.

“As our organization has become increasingly distributed across the globe, the Juniper Networks WX platform delivers exceptional performance of applications over our existing WAN infrastructure,” said Keith Wingate, CISSP, network administrator at Mustang Engineering. “The WX stack configuration provides us with the necessary flexibility to support remote locations, ensuring that we can run our operations continuously.”

To increase application performance, the new WXC 590 can be deployed in a stack configuration that can be licensed up to 155 Mbps and support up to 840 sites. It can be deployed on OC-3 links in a 3-client stack configuration supporting up to 420 remote sites, and as a single platform for 45 Mbps links supporting 140 sites. The new version of WXOS v5.4 software increases application performance with its new advanced disk warming feature, which enables its existing Network Sequence Caching feature to be directionally independent. Thus, as long as the WXC platform recognizes a pattern on either direction of a link, the WXC platform will achieve maximum compression via Sequence Caching when the pattern is seen on the return path. Additionally, the WXOS v5.4 software adds support for SAMBA servers, thereby extending the benefits of application-specific acceleration to the open source version of the Microsoft Common Internet file Services (CIFS) protocol.

“The Juniper Networks WX/WXC platforms provide our customers with a flexible, high performance application acceleration solution for connecting branch offices to the data center,” said Thomas Duffy, president and CEO at igxglobal, a Juniper Networks J-Partner in Rocky Hill, CT. “Juniper Networks succeeds where point-product vendors fall short, delivering a complete data center solution that is backed by the company’s reputation for providing technical excellence and a deep understanding for customers’ business needs.”

To ensure high availability and business continuity, the new WXC 590 platform comes with dual swappable power supplies and hard drives, and swappable fan trays. Channel partners and managed service providers are able to stock the power supply, hard drive and fan tray SKUs to better serve their customers. The new version of WXOS v5.4 helps ensure high availability with complete multicast and Layer 2 support for the WCCPv2 (web cache control protocol.) This allows multiple WX/WXC platforms to be load-balanced for increased load and high availability while support for Layer 2 redirection also greatly increases the performance of off-path deployments.

The WX CMS v5.4 software is a powerful tool that enables IT to centrally manage, configure and monitor geographically dispersed WX/WXC platforms. To increase visibility into the WAN, improve platform performance and facilitate troubleshooting, the new version of the WX CMS v5.4 software offers a new event management console and matrix that provides a summary of error conditions along with system and performance events occurring on multiple WX/WXC platforms. The new email gateway feature in WX CMS v5.4 gives customers the ability to configure email alerts based on pre-determined events based on business policies for follow-up. To further simplify and expedite troubleshooting, the WXOS v5.4 software provides granular flow diagnostics and per-flow statistics to help analyze traffic of a given flow.

“In the competitive global market, enterprises are looking for ways to increase employee productivity, reduce costs and ensure agility in order to respond to changes in the marketplace and business environment,” said Mike Banic, senior director of product marketing at Juniper Networks. “Our best-in-class, systems approach for enterprise data centers gives customers deployment agility and flexibility combined with security and performance. This enables them to cost-effectively and efficiently centralize servers, consolidate data centers, Web-enable applications, ensure business continuity and implement disaster recovery processes and help meet regulatory compliance.”

The WX/WXC application acceleration platforms provide distributed enterprises with one of the industry’s most complete and integrated WAN optimization solutions. The Juniper WX Framework is the foundation on which all WX/WXC platforms are built, integrating memory-based compression, disk-based caching, TCP and application-specific acceleration, Quality of Service, bandwidth management and path optimization, and visibility and reporting tools.
Pricing and Availability

The Juniper Networks WXC 590 platform is available today through Juniper’s global network of reseller partners. List pricing for the WXC 590 platform starts at USD $24,995.
