SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 5, 2006 – Silicon Image, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIMG), a leader in the secure storage, presentation and distribution of high-definition content, today announced it has named Brett Gaines, 43, vice president of strategic business development. In his new role, Gaines is responsible for building and expanding strategic relationships with Hollywood studios and consumer electronics manufacturers, leading industry standards initiatives, and driving business development activities in emerging markets, including China and India.

Since joining Silicon Image seven years ago, Gaines has held a series of crucial business and corporate development roles at the company. Most recently, Gaines was senior director of corporate development for Silicon Image, where he played a key role in reaching an agreement with the China Video Industry Association (CVIA) under which CVIA agreed to promote and support the use of HDMI by the consumer electronics industry in China. Prior to that, he was president of HDMI Licensing, LLC, a Silicon Image subsidiary responsible for licensing the High-Definition Multimedia Interface™ (HDMI™) specification. In that capacity, Gaines was instrumental in the formation of the HDMI working group that led to the creation of the HDMI specification. Previously, he was president of PanelLink Cinema, LLC, a Silicon Image subsidiary, now called Simplay Labs, LLC, the leading provider of testing technologies, programs and interoperability design standards for the high-definition consumer electronics industry.

Prior to joining Silicon Image, Gaines held senior positions in business development at Sun Microsystems, Inc. Gaines received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech and a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University.

“In 2007, Silicon Image will continue to expand into emerging markets, introduce new security standards for home networking, and focus on establishing the next generation of HDMI technology as the worldwide standard for delivering the ultimate home theater experience,” said Steve Tirado, president and CEO of Silicon Image. “Brett will play a key role in managing our success in these areas while extending our relationships with key individuals and organizations that can help successfully drive our solutions around the globe.”
