Alcatel’s next-gen integrated broadband and narrowband access gateway ranked first in tests by China Telecom

Paris, October 5, 2006 - Alcatel today announced that its next generation integrated broadband and narrowband access gateway was ranked No.1 in a test conducted by China Telecom. The access gateway adds a Voice over IP media gateway as well as legacy POTS and ISDN line cards supporting future migration to the next generation, IMS-based network.

Hosted upon the wire-speed, non-blocking ISAM platform, the Alcatel ISAM Voice Package is the next generation integrated broadband and narrowband access gateway with a unique design that allows parallel processing of voice packetization and treatment of gateway signaling. To date, the ISAM Voice Package has achieved interoperability with other suppliers’ softswitch solutions throughout China, and several operators around the world are currently testing it.

The quality of service to support different voice and video services simultaneously, the capability to support the controllable multicast and interoperability were the key product features involved in the testing. During the stringent test procedure, the Alcatel ISAM Voice Package demonstrated outstanding levels of interoperability and stability. The features include:

* Distributed Voice Media Gateway on each line terminal (1 Erlang non-blocking guaranteed)
* Fully standards compliant H.248 signaling
* Support of supplementary telephony services
* Capability to support up to 1024 multicast groups
* Capability to support 2 level multicast (IGMP proxy+ IGMP snooping) to guarantee optimum video quality;
* Capability to support particular “fast leave” mode, which can decrease traffic pressure of EMAN from video server
* Join latency at 23ms and leave latency at 15ms.
