Chase Expands New York’s Most Convenient ATM Network to 2,200

Bank of New York Deal Adds 400 ATMs; Gives 700,000 Customers Far Greater Access

NEW YORK, October 2, 2006 – More than 700,000 consumers and small businesses in the New York Tri-State area have five times as many ATMs for fee-free cash withdrawals today, thanks to Chase’s just-completed acquisition of The Bank of New York’s retail network.

The former Bank of New York customers now can withdraw cash and check account balances without a usage fee at more than 2,200 ATMs, including Duane Reade locations, in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The combined national network includes more than 8,300 ATMs.

In turn, existing Chase customers gain fee-free access to 400 more ATMs – which will carry the Bank of New York brand until spring – primarily in New York’s northern suburbs, Long Island and New Jersey.

“We just made New York’s most convenient ATM network even more accessible for millions of customers – both existing Chase customers and the 700,000 Bank of New York customers who just joined us,” said Charlie Scharf, head of Retail Finance Services for Chase. “We continue to enhance the value we provide our Tri-State consumers by serving them where they live and where they work.”

In a transaction that closed Oct. 1, Chase acquired Bank of New York’s consumer, small-business and middle-market banking businesses, including 339 branches and more than 400 ATMs.

The Bank of New York branches will be converted to the Chase brand and computer system in the spring of 2007, creating an unparalleled Tri-State network of more than 750 Chase branches and more than 2,200 Chase ATMs. Until then, however, each bank’s customer should continue to use the branches that carry their bank’s brand name.

After the spring conversion, customers will have full access to more than 3,000 branches and 8,300 ATMs in 17 states.

Chase’s Tri-State network -- branded either Chase or Bank of New York -- now includes extensive coverage with the following number of ATMs in each area:

* Manhattan, 833
* Long Island, 249
* Northern New York suburbs, 247
* New Jersey, 215
* Brooklyn, 190
* Queens, 190
* Bronx, 112
* Upstate New York, 75
* Connecticut, 67
* Staten Island, 25
