New, graded range of head transmitters for temperature measuring tasks

WEBWIRE

Nuremberg, Sep 26, 2006 - Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has developed a new generation of digital temperature head transmitters. Thanks to their compact dimensions, the Sitrans-TH devices are especially suitable for installation in the sensor connection head. With accurate and secure transfer of the process temperatures, the new products are suitable for diverse measuring applications in the process industry – from chemicals and pharmaceuticals, through food and beverages, right up to energy generation. Sitrans TH 300 can communicate via Hart or Profibus PA and has galvanic isolation for thermocouple applications. Sitrans TH 200 and Sitrans TH 100 are designed for stand-alone applications. TH 100, for example, can be used for extremely simple applications without galvanic elements, such as resistance thermometers with Pt100 sensors.

The new Sitrans TH temperature head transmitters convert measured process temperatures to analog 4 to 20 milliamp output signals or to digitally transmittable data via the fieldbus protocol. The Sitrans TH 300 transmitters are configured using PC, Profibus-PA or Hart protocol with the Simatic-PDM system software, or with a conventional standard Hart communicator. The Siprom-T software tool is used for the stand-alone devices.

Sitrans TH 300 has built-in characteristics for all commonly used temperature sensors and is thus prepared for the majority of measuring applications. For special applications, a custom curve with up to 30 measured points can be specified using the characterization function in order to adapt the transmitter precisely to sensor characteristics. At startup, simulation functions carry out a system integrity test before the sensor elements are installed and connected with the transmitter. During operation, detailed self-test routines and monitoring functions indicate all deviations from standard behavior. In addition, a two-color indicator shows a green light for normal operation and a blinking red light in the event of a fault, such as a measured value outside the permissible range or a transmitter/sensor fault.
