Technology Partnership Integrates High Performance Berkeley DB Developer Database With the Apache Web Server, the Most Popular Web Server in Use by Fortune 500 Enterprises
WALNUT CREEK, CA and EMERYVILLE, CA -- 04/04/2005 -- Covalent Technologies, the most trusted source for open source, and Sleepycat Software, makers of Berkeley DB, today announced a technology partnership to enhance customers’ web experience by increasing the speed, performance and flexibility of Covalent’s Enterprise Ready Server (ERS) through integration with Sleepycat’s Berkeley DB developer database.

As part of the agreement, Sleepycat will become a member of Covalent’s Certified Partners Program, indicating that Berkeley DB is certified enterprise ready and fully integrated with the Apache HTTP server. Covalent will include Berkeley DB with the latest ERS release, thereby providing a Web Infrastructure platform with persistence, as an alternative to LAMP or LAMJ stacks when higher performance is required.

Based on leading technologies such as Apache, Tomcat, FTP and SSL, ERS is already in use by more than 70% of the Fortune 100, including companies such as Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Fidelity Investments and GlaxoSmithKline. Berkeley DB is a high performance, zero administration database used by some of the world’s largest Web infrastructure deployments such as Amazon.com, AOL and Google and by several Apache Software Foundation (ASF) projects, including the Apache Web Server, Directory Server and Java Caching System.

“Sleepycat’s Berkeley DB gives our customers higher performance than many other common database alternatives,” said Mark Brewer, CEO at Covalent Technologies. “Our large enterprise customers will now have a solution to their problem of rapidly processing large amounts of data within their Web infrastructure.”

“Sleepycat and Covalent share a strong commitment to open source technologies and communities,” said Mike Olson, CEO of Sleepycat Software. “Partnering with Covalent, one of the most well respected and long-standing companies in the Open Source community and the ASF, is good for Sleepycat, good for our joint customers, and good for Open Source.”
