Ericsson delivers 3G/HSPA to XL in Indonesia

September 21, 2006, PT Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk (XL) has selected Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) to build its 3G/WCDMA network in Indonesia. It will provide higher data rates and enhance the end-user experience through High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA). Ericsson has also been chosen to supply its Mobile Softswitch Solution for nationwide deployment, as well as business consulting services.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will supply radio access products and be responsible for the performance and improvement of the radio network, as well as providing operations & maintenance services. The 3G network deployment includes Java, Bali and Lombok, with a focus on six major cities. Ericsson will also provide business consulting to support XL in its preparation for the launch of its 3G network.

Ericsson’s Mobile Softswitch Solution will also be deployed to upgrade and expand XL’s 2G and 3G networks across Indonesia and is the first step in the operator’s evolution to an all-IP network. This solution supports rapid and cost-efficient growth of capacity and coverage. Through the introduction of a layered architecture, Ericsson’s Mobile Softswitch allows XL to have a common platform to offer new and advanced consumer services.
