EMC Honored for Enterprise Document Management Implementation at Lahey Clinic

ANAHEIM, Calif. (MOMENTUM ’06)-Wednesday, September 20, 2006 – EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced that it has received the Innovative Leadership Award from Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc., for its document management solution implemented at healthcare provider Lahey Clinic.

The Innovative Leadership Award recognizes significant contributions to content management solutions that streamline business processes and positively impact customers’ bottom lines. EMC won the award for its creation of a unified enterprise content management (ECM) platform at Lahey Clinic. The platform integrates information from multiple diverse systems and forms a single point of access, allowing Lahey Clinic to improve patient care by enabling easier access to clinical information.

Whitney Tidmarsh, Vice President, EMC Software, accepted the Innovative Leadership Award today in a ceremony at EMC’s annual enterprise content management conference, Momentum.

“We are honored to receive this award from Fujitsu and proud to be recognized for the benefits our implementation has provided Lahey Clinic,” said Tidmarsh. “The combination of EMC Captiva® InputAccel® document capture software, the Documentum® enterprise content management platform and Fujitsu scanners has helped Lahey Clinic in its goal of moving away from paper-based processes. Lahey Clinic is a shining example of how we can help companies revolutionize their businesses for better customer service.”

Robert Laramie, Director of Enterprise Content Management and Portal Strategy at Lahey Clinic explained, “We have vast amounts of clinical knowledge here at Lahey. Putting that information in the right hands results in higher quality care and a better experience for the patient. The EMC Documentum platform’s open, flexible framework has proven time and again that we can extend its capabilities where we didn’t think it was possible, to transform and improve the way we do things.”

Fujitsu Consulting helped Lahey Clinic identify the six areas in which adding content management would reap the biggest results the fastest: nursing, admissions, medical forms, patient financial services, legal, and quality and safety. Using the Fujitsu scanners with InputAccel software, the various departments scan and digitize patient forms, insurance cards, explanation of benefits forms from insurance payers, contracts and other documents; then they use the Documentum ECM system to integrate and manage all the electronic content.

In a report released last month by market research firm IDC, EMC was ranked as the number one content management software vendor based on software market revenue for 2005. In the report titled “Worldwide Content Management Software 2005 Vendor Shares” (July 2006, IDC #202317), IDC noted that EMC provides all of the key capabilities of a complete content management suite – from the management of documents to web content, digital assets, images and records. In addition, EMC has recently begun to expand into other areas including enterprise reports management, information rights management and business process management through organic development and a string of strategic acquisitions.
