AIG Elects Virginia M. Rometty To Board Of Directors

NEW YORK--Sept. 20, 2006--The Board of Directors of American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has elected Virginia M. Rometty a Director. The action took place at a Board meeting today in London.

Ms. Rometty, 49, serves as Senior Vice President - Global Business Services of IBM Corporation, with responsibility for business consulting, systems integration, application services and business development. In this role, Ms. Rometty co-manages IBM’s Global Services division, which contributed over 50 percent of IBM’s 2005 revenues. Ms. Rometty manages a network of over 100,000 consultants and service professionals worldwide. She has been with IBM for 25 years, and previously held a range of leadership positions including General Manager, Insurance Industry Group; General Manager - Americas for Global Services; and Managing Partner - Business Consulting Services. In this latter role, from 2002 to 2005, Ms. Rometty led the formation of the industry’s largest team of business consultants and service experts following the acquisition of PriceWaterhouseCoopers Consulting, the largest acquisition to date in the consulting services industry. Prior to joining IBM in 1981, she held various positions with General Motors Corporation. Ms. Rometty is a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, with a B.S. degree in Computer Science with distinction.
