Glasurit® Global Trainer Grand Prix finals in Münster

Münster. Throughout the world, BASF Coatings’ trainers provide the company’s automotive refinish expertise to painters at local companies and bodyshops. In October, the world’s eight best trainers will be competing against each other face to face at Glasurit®’s headquarters in Münster, where the Global Trainer Grand Prix finals are taking place.

Since 2001, the European Championship has taken place twice. Now, for the first time the competition is including participants from all over the world. During the three-day finals, the trainer who does the best job of meeting the high demands required for perfect technical customer service and automotive refinish training will be selected from the international candidates. The jury won’t just be judging the ideal color-matching of the finish and the efficiency of the practical paint application, though. Instead, simulated scenarios with customers, theoretical questionnaires, and presentations will also be used to test the trainers’ estimate of a damage repair job, complete with an actual car, as well as his or her ability to justify the rationale for the selected refinishing method to the customer. In addition, the trainers will be confronted with surprise tasks that need to be mastered.
“The eight trainers who will be traveling to the final qualifications in Münster are actually already winners,” says Urban Johansson, head of BASF Coatings’ Refinish Academy. After all, the competing trainers, who come from South Africa, Australia, Ukraine, Turkey, China, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Austria, have already won their regional preliminary competitions.

The opportunity to participate in this contest is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the automotive refinish specialists. At the end of the final qualifications, the winner will take home the “Golden Gun”. BASF Coatings’ CEO Raimar Jahn will be presenting the new world champion automotive refinish specialist with the 24-carat gold-plated “Sata Jet 3000 Digital” high-tech spray gun on Friday, October 27. The runners-up have prizes to look forward to as well. Leading suppliers of non-paint articles, including 3M, Festool, SATA, Henkel (Teroson), ITW-DeVILBISS, TESA, EMM, and SIA have sponsored valuable awards. The competition also includes the opportunity for the international painters to get to know and enjoy the ambience of Münster and its surroundings—the “home of the parrot”.
