TestAmerica Presents on PFOS and PFOA at the Environmental Professionals of Iowa Fall Symposium

The Environmental Professionals of Iowa (EPI) held its annual symposium on November 14 and 15 in Johnston, Iowa.  Ms. Karla Buechler, Technical Director for TestAmerica, presented Analysis of PolyFluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) including PFOS and PFOA.  The presentation focused on the unique bio-accumulative characteristics of PFAS compounds, as well as the United States Environmental Protection Agencies’ PFOA Stewardship Program which aims to phase out the use of long-chain perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs).  Ms. Buechler also discussed the analytical methods available for PFAS determination, as well as sample collection and handling guidance.
 
Ms. Buechler has more than 30 years’ experience in the environmental testing industry.  She has held positions in Laboratory Management, Project Management and has many years of hands-on experience with chromatography systems including Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry and High Resolution Mass Spectrometry.
