Canon’s New High Sensitivity, Premium DR System Helps Maximize Workflow Efficiency and Effectiveness

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., September 19, 2006 – Canon U.S.A, Inc., today continues to expand its line of digital radiography (DR) systems with the introduction of the Canon CXDI-40EC DR system, a premium DR system that offers fast, filmless X-ray capture and helps to improve workflow efficiency for diverse radiographic applications.

The new Canon CXDI-40EC DR System, which features the LANMIT 8 (Large Area New-MIS Sensor and TFT), is equipped with a large 17 X 17 inch imaging area for capturing X-ray images large and small without the need to adjust detector orientation. This new DR system consists of a Canon Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) Flat Panel Detector and Cesium Iodide (CsI) scintillator, allowing for extremely effective X-ray absorption and high signal-to-noise performance.

“Backed by Canon’s long and distinguished optical and imaging heritage, the Canon CXDI-40EC system offers maximum image quality, seamless network and workflow integration with DICOM-compliant devices, and superb dose efficiency in a single DR solution,” said Tsuneo Imai, director and general manager, Medical Systems Division, Canon U.S.A. Inc. “The Canon CXDI-40EC provides a variety of configuration options to help fit the exact requirements of a facility or practice, while delivering high-quality images with minimal X-ray exposure to patients, making it ideal for pediatric and orthopedic use, among other applications.”

At the core of the CXDI-40EC DR system is the Canon Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) Flat Panel Detector with Cesium Iodide (CsI) scintillator, which produces clear, high-resolution diagnostic images in 12-bit grayscale (4096 gradations). The highly sensitive detector contains approximately 7.2 million pixels - each pixel only 160 microns wide - and features an expansive dynamic range to capture subtle contrast and fine image detail that may otherwise appear over or underexposed on conventional film.

To enable seamless data transfer to any DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) hard copy output device, or PACS (Picture Archiving Communications Systems) for diagnostic read, archiving, remote viewing and printing of images, the Canon CXDI-40EC comes standard with an Ethernet 10/100 Base T connectivity that offers DICOM 3.0 compatibility.

The system also complies with the IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) standards for interoperability to help ensure easy, effective integration with an organization’s network. For example, the Canon CXDI-40EC can integrate directly with an IHE Scheduled Workflow Profile application. This seamless integration allows for procedure instructions and patient information to pass from the Health Information System/Radiology Information System (HIS/RIS) to the Canon device and return information directly to the HIS/RIS to aid in patient billing and records management.
