“If You Listen…The Patient Will Tell You the Diagnosis.” –Frederick Holmes

Carl Holgate is not happy with his local VA, the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida.  He states: “I’ve been to nine VA’s across the country in the forty-five years I’ve been in the VA system, this is the first time I’ve been dissatisfied with the care I’ve received.”

Holgate is battling a physical illness that began in 2010 in Prescott, AZ and is still undiagnosed. Holgate states: “I started getting real sick a little over a year ago.”  He went on to add: “I now spend twenty-one to twenty-three hours a day in bed.”

Tired of the VA telling him there is nothing serious wrong with him, Holgate has composed a letter directed to VA Secretary Robert McDonald. In his message Holgate petitions McDonald to review his situation. “He claims he cares about Veterans,” proclaimed Holgate then added, “This is his chance to prove it!”

Holgate believes he may be the victim of a tactic used by the VA to deny physical medical treatment to veterans by determining their claims are nothing more than psychological in nature.  “It’s one of the various ploys the VA uses to deny a veteran treatment both at the VA and with outside specialists,” states Holgate.

Holgate’s claims relating to his ordeal and his letter to McDonald can be viewed on a website formally used to showcase his art www.HolgateArt.com.  “Nothing I own is of importance to me anymore,” states Holgate.  He went on to add: “I’m prepared to sell everything I own, including my home, to find out what is wrong with me if the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center continues to refuse to help me.”

“It’s not right that veterans have to fight to receive proper healthcare from the VA while Terrorists at Guantanamo Bay get the best healthcare our government has to offer,” Holgate said shaking his head. He concluded by saying: “I will continue to fight until I can fight no longer, then others will pursue the fight for me.”
