Managing chronic health problems can be a very burdensome experience, especially on the part of loved ones who are actively involved in caregiving. Bob: As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn tells the author’s experiences of caring for her brother, Bob, who suffered from a mild case of schizophrenia.

This memoir recalls Contino’s pains and frustrations as she went through the process of dealing with her brother’s failing health, from diagnosis to treatment. She saw Bob’s limping and the many tests to be administered, which her brother sometimes refused. Rosalie sacrificed a lot of her plans to fulfill her promise to her deceased parents to take care of her beloved brother.

Author Contino, however, reflects on the learnings of that painful episode of their lives, and remembers Bob fondly in this work.
