In Front Porch Tales, Barbara recalls the simple and quiet joys of growing up on her family’s farm. On the farm, her life felt like an idyllic scene in a movie. Vanderstel reveals, however, that she faced numerous challenges, including raising money for her high school tuition. She recalls how her faith and values helped her pull through the toughest of times.

While she lived on a farm, Barbara L. Vanderstel had many responsibilities, such as feeding the cattle, milking the cows, and many more. On the farm with her family and their farm animals, she created plenty of memories she shares in her book, Front Porch Tales.

She lives by the scriptures Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” and Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Front Porch Tales is filled with insightful stories illustrated by the author’s husband, Bill Vanderstel, and was featured in the 2016 BookExpo America. The event was held last May 11 to 13 at McCormick Place, Chicago.
