A Helpful Guide for Caregivers’ Needed Etiquette in Practice

For those who are dealing with the sick and suffering, Jeffrey R. Funk has released a book that will serve as a guide especially for caregivers in handling their patients well. In Coming Alongside: Basic Pastoral Care at the Bedside, Funk provides how support pastoral care can lessen stress in caregiving and, most importantly, relieve the pain of others.

Funk writes about the important role of compassion in the healing process, as well as the ways to set boundaries to avoid “compassion burnout.” He also poses questions for self-reflection and imparts commentaries to help the readers to show God’s love. It’s the desire of the author to inspire caregivers to serve others with compassion as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Funk’s book was displayed at the London Book Fair 2016 from April 12 to 14 in Olympia, London.

About the Author

Jeffrey R. Funk is a board certified chaplain (BCC) and executive director of Healthcare Chaplains Ministry Association (HCMA). He has facilitated a cancer support group, a COPD support group, and grief support groups. He has also worked as a hospital chaplain, corporate chaplain, police chaplain, and a chaplain with the Boy Scouts. He teaches a pastoral care and chaplaincy course at the Talbot School of Theology. He has been married for forty years and is a father of five, including an adopted son with chronic medical and mental illness issues.
