Memoir Talks about Healing through God’s Grace

Pastor Rosie Bumpers believes that there is a way to eliminate recurrent pain and agonizing past. In her book, she reiterated that her past does not define who she is now or who she will become in the future.

Running through the Forest is a memoir that accounts Bumpers’s journey to healing from hurtful childhood memories. As an abused and fatherless child, she grew up into a fearful and untrusting young adult. But, with God’s words and its comforting interpretation, she learned to accept the unchangeable past and decided to move on. As she learns to embrace the past, she revealed, “Personally, embracing the past means accepting that which I cannot conquer and shining light on it by confronting it and telling my story. It means that I must come face-to-face with the encounter.”

In her own words, she expounded how childhood pains can paralyze a grown up person. She described her experience by attesting that chronological aging does not warrant freedom from the past. She stated, “As we get older, excessive recollection of our painful experience retards our ability to get healed mentally and emotionally. The frightened child inside of us never grows but remains imprisoned within, seeking to be nurtured and healed.”

Bumpers wishes to lead readers to the path of healing as she discloses her personal life to them. Enlightened by God’s grace, she hopes to inspire people to free themselves from the chains of a painful past. Despite everything that has happened in the past, people are left with two options: to remain imprisoned by the past or to move on. And she wants them to believe that they can truly change the future by opting to and by God’s help.

Filled with motivation, the book is recommended for both teen and adult readers. Primarily, it is for people who are persistently looking for freedom from the past that binds them in the dark. Secondly, it is for people who seek to understand the pain experienced by these victims, and eventually to learn how to guide them back to the light.
