Journey to Chalgrave Written by Manton L. Botsford

Journey to Chalgrave is a genealogy book about Botsford’s pursuit of knowledge in relation to his ancestors and their roles in Medieval English towns. As he stated, “These documents not only give readers a glimpse of previously unknown Botsford family members, but also illuminate the roles they played in everyday life in 1500s England.”

For most people, knowing their family history up to third or fourth generation is already enough. But, for someone who wanted to be illuminated about his origin, even decoding the five-hundred-year-old document won’t stand in the way. This is how author Manton L. Botsford found enlightenment about his paternal ancestry.

Motivated by his visit to England in 2006, Botsford spent six years digging through old records to link the dots, trace his ancestors’ footsteps, and shed light on Botsford paternal ancestry. Intentionally, he wanted to introduce to his children and grandchildren their past and the origin of their ancient name. Moreover, he included the complexities and realizations of the research process in this excursion.

In connection with the method of genealogical research, this book applied modern researching tools to complement a new period of discovery to the previously available ancestral information. Through this meticulous research, readers are warranted the best opportunities of discovery. Botsford discusses his success and failures in tracking down ancient documents and relatives with name variations.

Comprehensively written, this book is for those who are interested in genealogy or family history societies including the Botsford’s. He added, “Whether you’re a Botsford, a Bottysford, a Bottisford or a member of another clan, ‘Journey to Chalgrave’ is a wonderful exploration of the family tree.”

Journey to Chalgrave will be featured at the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair which will be held on October 14-18, 2015 at the Frankfurt Trade Fairgrounds in Frankfurt, Germany. Check out the book along with several other materials during the whole event.
