Unlikely Ones Band Together in a Tale of Determination

What if improbable companions get together and go on an adventure they’ll treasure forever? Sieglinde Othmer tells us an endearing fable in her book, Whims, Wits, and Whiskers.

When a group of cat and dog cousins embark on an escapade together, they don’t know what to expect. Things start out shaky among the newly formed group, but they would later find cooperation among themselves and a newfound respect for one another. They face challenges along the way, as they are forced to exert more effort, pushing them to their limit and testing their bond with one another.

Othmer targets her book toward third-graders and above, as well as pet lovers. Being a pet lover herself, she shows her affinity for furry little creatures as well as pet lovers of all ages through her work.

“I loved nature as a child, when I could not have a pet due to the aftermath of World War II,” says Othmer. “As an adult, I had my own pets—I cherished my life with my three dogs. They stirred my imagination.”

About the Author

Sieglinde C. Othmer, PhD, studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, and at the University of Hamburg, Germany. She immigrated to the United States after earning her doctorate. Three children and three dogs made her conquer hardships through a career in psychiatric research. She currently lives with her husband in Kansas City, Missouri.
