CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union Awards Scholarships to Student Members

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union has selected three members to win this year’s scholarships of $1,000 each to help with the rising costs of tuition for higher education.

This year’s winners of our two Kathryn R. Coleman scholarships and the CommonWealth One scholarship are impressive in their dedication to academic excellence and extracurricular activities.

Applicants are required to attend an accredited college, university, or other recognized school full-time during the 2016–2017 school year and are student members of CommonWealth One.

The scholarships are awarded to one graduating T.C. Williams High School senior in the Academy of Finance, one T.C. Williams High School student, and one Harrisonburg area high school student.
The winners this spring are: 

  • CommonWealth One (T.C. Williams High School) Scholarship Award Winner – Laura Ruple, who will be attending James Madison University and hopes to one day to become either a professional musician or a music professor.
  • Kathryn R. Coleman (High School) Scholarship Award Winner – Jared Dunlap, who will be attending Hampden-Sydney College and hopes to one day become a doctor.
  • Kathryn R. Coleman (College/University) Scholarship Award Winner – Peyton Cook, currently attending Shenandoah University and plans to become an occupational therapist.


The scholarships honor former CommonWealth One President & CEO Kathryn R. Coleman, a much loved and highly respected figure in the credit union movement who wielded significant influence on the local and national credit union scene for 40 years.
