“My brother was the only family I have left. He was everything to me so it was easy for me to drop everything for him. I just hope our story will inspire everyone who has been through what we’ve experienced during one of the most difficult time of our lives.”

Blood is thicker than water. But how many of us actually follow that rule? Are you really willing to give up everything just to be at your family’s side? Well, Rosalie H. Contino, Ph.D. walked the talk when she took care of her brother when he needed her the most. And she has written their experiences together along with the lessons that she has learned in her book entitled As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn.

According to the author, “My brother was the only family I have left. He was everything to me so it was easy for me to drop everything for him. I just hope our story will inspire everyone who has been through what we’ve experienced during one of the most difficult time of our lives.”

Here’s their story. After a phone call, Rosalie felt her heart constrict. Her brother, Bob Contino, was forced to retire because he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. She couldn’t believe that the company would just let him go easily after all his years of good service. That’s when she knew that she has to pause all her life plans in order to be at her brother’s side. But she also knew that their journey together will never be easy, especially since his brother was also diagnosed with numerous physical ailments.

But she rose up to the challenge and took her brother under her wing. Although he annoyed her with sarcasm and impertinence, she has put everything in perspective and reflected on the lessons she has learned during her time with Bob. And those lessons are manifested in every page of this book, As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn.

So, if you’re having one those tough times while taking good care of your loved ones, let Rosalie’s book be your inspiration to help you get through the challenges. And if you have some time, you can also check out As Life Goes On: Lessons One Doesn’t Want to Have to Learn during the 2015 New England Library Association event. It will be held on October 26-27, 2015 at Manchester, New Hampshire.
