TestAmerica Featured at the 2016 TCEQ Environmental Trade Fair in Austin, TX

Knoxville, TN – WEBWIRE

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) held its annual Environmental Trade Fair and Conference in Austin, TX on May 3-4, 2016.  The conference, recognized as the state’s premier environmental education forum, featured topics such as waste management, air quality, laboratory practices, oil and gas and wastewater permitting.  Thousands of industry professionals attended the two day event, participating in networking, professional development opportunities, or one of more than one hundred educational classes.

TestAmerica, the leader in environmental testing, provided two presentations at the TCEQ conference.  The first presentation, delivered by TestAmerica expert Tom Yoder, was entitled Benzene Fenceline Monitoring at Refineries – Methods 325A and 325B. Mr. Yoder’s presentation focused on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recently issued final Risk and Technology Review and New Performance Standards for refineries.  The presentation included a general discussion of the final rule, the pros and cons of passive diffusive sampling, and considerations for refineries when working with a laboratory.  Mr. Tom Yoder has more than 25 years’ experience in the environmental laboratory industry, and led TestAmerica’s product development of method 325B, leveraging his in-depth knowledge of air methodology and regulations.

Dr. Richard Burrows, Corporate Technical Director at TestAmerica, also delivered a presentation entitled An overview of the NELAC Institute (TNI) Standard Language for Detection and Quantitation and the EPA MDL.  The discussion provided an overview of The NELAC Institute’s recently completed revisions to the detection, quantitation and calibration language that will be incorporated in to the TNI 2015/2016 Standard and EPA’s February, 2015 proposed revision to the method detection limit (MDL) procedure.  Dr. Burrows is responsible for implementing new technology, improving existing methods, and leading technical groups within TestAmerica. Dr. Burrows has more than thirty years of experience in analytical chemistry in academic and commercial laboratories, of which 25 years have been in the environmental laboratory field. Dr. Burrows is currently Chair of the TNI Chemistry Expert Committee, and is twice recipient of the ACIL Preston Millar Award.  Dr. Burrows received his B.S. in Chemistry and PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Bristol, in England.
