The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) administers the internationally recognized Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®) program.

Lansing, MI – WEBWIRE

Directors play a vital role in maintaining ABIH’s future as the premier credentialing organization for the Industrial Hygiene profession.

Next month, the due date for self-nominations for several Board of Director positions at the American Board of Industrial Hygiene® takes place.  Interested and qualified candidates have until June 15th to submit their official and completed Nomination Packets.

The Board Selection Committee will then review all candidates who have successfully submitted their information for consideration.  At the September Board Meeting, candidates will be elected to fill the open positions.   The Board of Directors is currently comprised of eleven Diplomates (ABIH® certificate holders) who hold four-year terms and one public member with a two-year term. The objective of Board composition is to have a broad representation from the professional community and each year, two to three new Board members are selected.

The ABIH® Board of Directors uses the Carver Policy Governance model, which emphasizes policy-making and strategic leadership in four main areas:

  • Ends: what results are to be achieved, for whom and at what cost
  • Executive Limitations: staff boundaries for operational/administrative activities
  • Board-Staff Linkage: delegation of authority to staff and staff accountability
  • Governance Process: how the Board governs itself and is held accountable

The Board meets face-to-face, for two days, three times per year.  These meetings take place in January, during AIHce, and at the AIHA Fall Conference.  Nine monthly conference calls are also scheduled to conduct business and monitor progress.

“Diplomates are encouraged to submit their self-nominations by the June 15th deadline for consideration to join the Board of Directors,” said Susan Ripple, CIH® and Chair of ABIH®. “Directors play a vital role in maintaining ABIH’s future as the premier credentialing organization for the Industrial Hygiene profession.”
