Silicon STEM Academy Launches New SAT and ACT Prep Courses
One of our primary goals at Silicon STEM Academy is to give kids the tools they need to lead in the 21st century. We know that in addition to the much-in-demand computer programming skills, there is a need for more college-educated, skilled workers to lead our businesses, invent and create. We apply the same fun, creative and engaging approach in our SAT/ACT prep courses as in our STEM classes, so students are inspired about their future.
– Silicon STEM Academy (SSA), a new enrichment program in Denver designed to teach kids aged 8-17 computer programming, robotics, digital media and other technology skills, has expanded its course offerings to include SAT and ACT prep courses for high-school juniors. This added course means SSA is now offering a robust curriculum of after-school STEM courses, summer camps, and test prep.
The test prep courses are small group sessions beginning with a one-on-one parent meeting. Students will spend individual assessment time with instructors, and then meet twice weekly for four weeks in preparation for the ACT or SAT exam. Parents receive regular progress updates and guidance on which tests make more sense for their child.
“One of our primary goals at Silicon STEM Academy is to give kids the tools they need to lead in the 21st century,” said John Scarborough, co-founder of Silicon STEM Academy. “We know that in addition to the much-in-demand computer programming skills, there is a need for more college-educated, skilled workers to lead our businesses, invent and create. We apply the same fun, creative and engaging approach in our SAT/ACT prep courses as in our STEM classes, so students are inspired about their future.”
Skills and information taught in the classes include:
- Testing strategies
- What the tests look like
- Tips for translating vocabulary
- How to “hack” passages for content
- Grammar and the mechanics of language
- Methods for acing math and science questions
Instructors also offer assistance with college applications, focusing on strategies to write winning essays.
