Hair is a really personal thing to a woman – if it looks or feels terrible, it can affect her confidence. It makes me feel good to help women look and feel great, and that’s why I’m so passionate about my hair extensions.

With so many hair styling options available in salons, women now have the choice of completely changing the way they look in just a few hours. Different types of hair extensions in particular, can seemingly alter the shape of a face, and highlight flattering facial features.

“It’s really important to me that my clients walk out of my salon absolutely rapt with their hair, the cost, the service and the experience. And for that to happen, my clients are aware of the hair extension benefits and disadvantages of the different types of application and hair quality,” says Lisa. “Hair is a really personal thing to a woman – if it looks or feels terrible, it can affect her confidence. The hair extensions Gold Coast specialist explains the industry terms, so people can make an informed decision about the best type of hair extension for them.

Tape – Tape extensions last about six months, and need to be moved up closer to the scalp every 4-5 weeks using glue remover. After the initial six months, these extensions will begin to fall apart because the glue remover will break down the tape on the hair extension.

Nano Ring and Micro Ring – Nano and micro ring extensions need to be moved up the natural hair every eight weeks and re-tipped, as the glue tips wash away and can shed some hair. Nano Rings have a small wire at the top of the extension’s tip and a small metal ring is squeezed onto the wire with some natural hair between. “Metal to metal is not ideal as it can cut the natural hair,” says Lisa. “It also needs to be removed for some medical procedures and can cause itching due to a reaction to the metal.”

Wefts – Wefts are sewn into cornrows or attached with micro rings. They need to be moved up the natural hair every four weeks due to sagging in the back. They are heavy, and bulky to sleep with.

Clipins – Clipins are temporary solutions which should not be slept in or swam with.  Since they are only short term, they can slip out of fine hair.

Shrinkies – When it comes to what hair extensions last the longest, Shrinkies stay put for up to 12 weeks. They can be reused several times without adding more hair because they don’t thin out or shed. This type of hair extension does not itch, slip or fall out, and there is no need to remove them for medical procedures. Shrinkies hair extensions can be removed chemically-free, and can be worn in any style as a completely natural look.

“Hair extensions also have various origins and textures. Remi European and Russian hair are the best quality that can be used, because they are finer, will not tangle, are resistant to many external factors, more reliable to style, are soft and less exposed to harsh conditions like weather and pollution. In contrast, synthetic blends are scratchy, thick, do not feel soft and cannot be dyed a different colour,” says the hair extensions Gold Coast specialist. www.oohlalahairextensions.com.au

“Indian hair is workable and curls easily, but unlike Russian or European hair that are finer, Indian hair feels and looks coarse. Asian hair is the thickest and coarsest natural hair available and it doesn’t look natural once attached to Caucasian hair because it is so thick and rough.”
