Since he was only about a year old, Teddy has warmed the hearts of kindergarteners, first graders, and even adults at his local school.

With just a glance to an amiable Golden Retriever, children and adults are saved from an otherwise troublesome day. This holds true in Karla Unke’s new book. In Teddy’s Loving Care (TLC): The Work of a School Therapy Dog, the author shares the amazing true stories of Teddy, a now retired but certified professional school therapy dog at Whittier Elementary school.

Since he was only about a year old, Teddy has warmed the hearts of kindergarteners, first graders, and even adults at his local school. Whether it was school anxiety or a child simply having a glum day at school, Teddy would always be there to give smiles to every child. Alongside school counselor and his personal handler Karla Unke, Teddy created a long-lasting, profound change and security in the tiny school community.

“He would help students who were feeling separation anxiety the first weeks of school. He was also a great buffer for the students,” Unke said.

The book was displayed at the 2015 Guadalajara International Book Fair in Guadalajara, Mexico last November 28 - December 6, 2015.  Other books were also displayed throughout the event.
