IAMTN’s CEO Lady Olga Maitland Meets British Deputy Finance Minister Ed Balls, MP

British deputy finance minister, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Ed Balls, MP received IAMTN’s ceo Lady Olga Maitland at the Treasury in London’s Whitehall, today.

The purpose of the meeting with Mr. Balls, a member of the Chancellor of Exchequer Gordon Brown’s ministerial team, was to discuss the money transfer sector.

Mr Balls, who worked very closely with Mr. Brown before entering the House of Commons in 2005, has travelled widely in the course of his duties. In the course of them he has met Mr. Alexei Koudrin, the Russian Finance Minister.

Mr. Balls has been watching carefully issues in the European Commission regarding the new European Payment Services directives and their possible impact on banks and money transfer operators.

To this end, he sent out a Consultation document which has been circulated to IAMTN for a response. There will be a meeting with Treasury officials and representatives of money transfer operators lead by IAMTN to give their point of view.

Says Lady Olga :”This was a very positive meeting and a welcome one. We will continue to have a good working relationship with the Minister and his department.

“Mr Balls has also taken a close interest in the second Global Consumer Money Transfer conference and is hoping to put in an appearance to meet delegates.”
