Doctor Encourages Empathy toward Evil Characters

Believing that Tolkien’s protagonists will fail to retain their virtue and nobility without the unquestioned wickedness of their opponents, Morlindalë remarkably exposes the thoughts and emotions of the involved characters.

As a parody taking on Tolkien’s Silmarillion and Lord of the Rings, Morlindalë enables readers to “feel their emotions” and “hear their voices.”

Moreover, the author explains, “If the Morlindalë is a lesson in anything, therefore, it is in the need for empathy… for those who are different from ourselves – not just in appearance, but in intrinsic beings. Perhaps ‘evil’ is not so casually assigned after all.”

About the Author
The One Ring, Ardagarneya, was awakened by Sauron the Maia in the Sammath Naur (Chambers of Fire) within Orodruin (Mountain of Red Flame) in Mordor in the year 1600 of the Second Age. Long thought to be unmade in the same mountain in 3019 of the Third Age, it was re-awakened in 2003 of the Common Era by Tolkien Town, whereupon it compelled the Baron of Rachane, Scotland to replicate nine ancient scrolls, “Morlindalë.”
