NCR and Symstream Set to Offer Reliable ATM Services on GSM Networks in Developing Countries

NCR EasyPoint LLC adopts Symstream II for global wireless protocol

September 12, 2006 - DAYTON, Ohio – NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), the world’s leading automated teller machine (ATM) provider, announced today an alliance of its wholly owned subsidiary, NCR EasyPoint LLC, with Australian-based wireless-technology company, Symstream Technology Group Ltd. The alliance enables NCR to globally market a range of EasyPoint ATMs with Symstream wireless technology.

The NCR EasyPoint ATMs with the wireless connectivity option will initially be deployed in developing countries that have extensive Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) voice networks, but limited data networks. The alliance will focus first on opportunities in Indonesia, India and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region. However, the partnership also offers worldwide potential for the integration of the Symstream™ II solution into NCR’s EasyPoint product range.

The combined solution will allow merchants to send transactions to their financial-services provider without needing to connect to a fixed-line communications network. The NCR-Symstream solution allows faster, reliable ATM services across a broader geographic network and frees merchant customers from dependency on the availability of sophisticated and costly fixed-line networks.

“The integration of Symstream II with NCR’s EasyPoint ATMs will provide the market with a faster ‘one-stop shop’ approach to what has, historically, been a complex and difficult solution to provide,” explained Symstream Managing Director Michael Neistat. “The quality of the NCR brand, the strength of their distribution, support and technology, combined with our world-leading wireless technology, will overcome many of the current barriers-to-entry in this market segment, particularly in developing countries.”

Michael Hudson, general manager of NCR EasyPoint, LLC, said, “This alliance represents a further strengthening of NCR EasyPoint’s strategy to develop complete end-to-end solutions, rather than simply selling stand-alone products. With this particular solution, we have found a partner with leading technology that seamlessly integrates with our products and allows us to offer added value by bundling the offering with our ATMs. This is just another example of NCR’s commitment to the entry-level market segment.”

Symstream is already working with a number of wireless-phone carriers throughout Asia, Australia and the Indian subcontinent, providing a highly secure wireless solution to connect ATMs and electronic funds transfer point-of-sale (EFTPOS) devices to banking networks.
