High-performance system’s calibration time and throughput increase productivity up to 50 percent

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 12, 2006

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced an integrated sink, source and cable test solution for the new High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) 1.3 standard. The system is used for manual and automated HDMI physical-layer compliance tests, as well as for margin-test and characterization for R&D and manufacturing. Target customers include consumer electronics manufacturers, semiconductor and cable manufacturers.

Key elements of the new solution include Infiniium oscilloscopes, a time domain reflectometer (TDR), a ParBERT-based TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) signal generator, extensions to the test automation software (N5990A) and HDMI-specific accessories, including the new N1080A series TPA (Test Point Access Assembly) adapters. The integrated system is controlled conveniently via point-and-click operations. Its fast calibration time and test throughput increase productivity up to 50 percent.

To ensure in-depth characterization of HDMI source devices, the Infiniium oscilloscope software (N5399A) provides an industry-first integrated equalizer, as well as jitter-separation capabilities for accurate total-jitter extrapolation. The E4887A HDMI TMDS signal generator allows the most complete HDMI receiver characterization, with its unique, fully integrated and instant-use jitter-injection capabilities on TMDS clock and data lanes.

The new N1080A TPA adapters provide the highest bandwidth available on the market, allowing users to measure the true performance of their products by overcoming the limitations of existing adapters. The HDMI extensions to the test automation software platform (N5990A) combine the performance of the test hardware with the convenience of PC operation. In addition, the external test controller ensures the fastest calibration and measurements, and provides advanced data management.

“Agilent provides the broadest range of standalone instruments for HDMI compliance tests -- all with superior performance, compared with competitive products,” said Siegfried Gross, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Digital Verification Solutions Division. “Now, for the first time, this portfolio has been integrated into a whole solution and will deliver the signal quality, performance, ease-of-use and fast test times required by professional users.”

The Agilent test solution setup supports the test needs for HDMI, as specified in the HDMI specification 1.3, and will accommodate the requirements of the 1.3 compliance test specification that is expected to be released soon.

U.S. Pricing and Availability
