TestAmerica to Present at the 2016 USWAG Coal Combustion Residuals Workshop

Knoxville, TN – WEBWIRE

The Utility Solid Waste Activities Group (USWAG) will hold a Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) workshop at the Edison Electric Institute in Washington, DC on February 17-18, 2016. Founded in 1978, USWAG supports the utility industry by addressing solid and hazardous waste issues pertaining to RCRA, TCSA and HMTA.  The CCR workshop is open to all USWAG members, affiliates and non-members, and will provide a forum for discussion of CCR management issues in the wake of the final CCR rule published April 17, 2015 and the Effluent Limitation Guidelines signed September 30, 2015.

TestAmerica, the leader in environmental testing, will be providing a presentation at the conference entitled Reliable Analytical Measurements for Groundwater Assessment Monitoring for CCR Impoundments.  Dr. Richard Burrows, Corporate Technical Director at TestAmerica, will discuss the importance of making careful analytical method choices when working with complex CCR leachates to ensure accurate analytical measurements and avoid unnecessary remediation activities.  Specifically, the presentation will describe which methods are preferred for each analyte required under the CCR rule, and will include a discussion of analytical method weaknesses that could lead to inaccurate results, false positives or false negatives if not properly controlled.

Dr. Burrows has more than 30 years of analytical chemistry experience in academic and commercial laboratory settings.  In his current position with TestAmerica, he is responsible for implementing new technology, improving existing methods, and leading technical groups within the company.  He has been actively involved with environmental methods and techniques through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, American Council of Independent Laboratories and Environmental Laboratory Advisory Board organizations.

Dr. Burrows is currently Chair of the NELAC Institute’s (TNI) Environmental Measurement Methods Expert Committee, and is twice recipient of the ACIL Preston Millar Award.
