EMSL Analytical, Inc. Receives 10th CDC ELITE Certification for Legionella Testing

EMSL Analytical, Inc. now has 10 CDC ELITE certified Legionella laboratories as part of a strategic expansion effort to provide Legionella testing services nationwide. The newly certified laboratories are Boston, MA, Denver, CO, and Raleigh, NC. Other CDC ELITE locations include Cinnaminson, NJ, Houston, TX, Indianapolis, IN, New York, NY, San Leandro, CA, South Pasadena, CA, and Toronto, Canada.  

“We are adding additional labs due to the increased demand for regional Legionella testing locations across the country,” said Diane Miskowski, MPH, Legionella Program Manager at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “We have seen a marked increase in Legionella testing resulting from the recent passage of New York State and New York City regulations for Legionella testing in cooling towers and healthcare facilities as well as the recent approval of ASHRAE 188 for preventing legionellosis in building water systems. Other EMSL labs are also in the queue for Legionella certification for 2016.”  

Legionella can cause a very serious form of pneumonia known as Legionnaires’ disease which often has long-term health effects such as cognitive decline and debilitating fatigue long after the patient is released from the hospital. While the CDC estimates 18,000 to 25,000 cases of Legionnaires’ disease annually, most cases go unreported due to the way the disease is diagnosed in the United States.
