Symantec to Participate in Congressional Subcommittee Hearing on Cyber Security for the Nation’s Critical Infrastructure

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Sept. 12, 2006 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that Vincent Weafer, senior director, Symantec Security Response, will participate in a hearing on cyber security for the nation’s critical infrastructure conducted by the United State House of Representatives Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet. The hearing, entitled “Cyber Security: Protecting America’s Critical Infrastructure, Economy, and Consumers,” is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. ET in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.

Weafer’s remarks will focus on the current cyber security threat landscape and the challenges those threats pose to the nation’s online communications infrastructure, including emergency response, transportation, finance, and health care networks.

Weafer is responsible for the Symantec Security Response global research center teams, whose mission is to advance the research into new computer malware threats and provide the most trusted and rapid response to today’s blended security threats.
