Human Hair Extensions Gold Coast Style: How to Achieve and Maintain the Look
Master hair architect, Lisa Forrest shares insider knowledge about caring for Gold Coast hair extensions and how to make them last.
It’s so incredible that something so seemingly simply can have such a deep impact on a woman’s self-esteem, and the value they place on themselves, but I see it time and time again in this industry.
It’s no wonder that women feel like their hair is a ‘crowning glory’, considering its importance and value dates back thousands of years to a time before biblical writings. It’s only natural then, that women often see their hair as a personal and public reflection of their identity, and easily associate a ‘bad hair day’ with just a bad day in general.
Gold Coast hair extensions technician, Lisa Forrest and owner of Ooh La La Hair Extensions, understands the effects of ‘bad hair days’ having worked in the hair industry for over 25 years. “It’s so incredible that something so seemingly simply can have such a deep impact on a woman’s self-esteem, and the value they place on themselves, but I see it time and time again in this industry,” says Lisa.
“It’s really important to feel good, and part of feeling good is also looking great to many people. That’s why if a person decides to lengthen their hair with hair extensions, they need to know how to care for and maintain that luscious look.” www.oohlalahairextensions.com.au
As a teenager, Lisa’s client Ellen wanted the experience of hair extensions for her high school graduation. But the memories of the celebrations that followed were almost ruined by one simple hair care mistake. “I was so excited to have long hair for my graduation, formal and schoolies celebrations. My graduation and formal passed and my hair looked amazing; I absolutely loved having the extensions in!” says Ellen.
“[However] with schoolies came the weather of course. Queensland summers guarantee to present 30 degree days, and I was sweating especially with my new long locks, so I doused my hair in hair spray and wore it up for most of the week. I spent my days swimming in the salty ocean and sweating at beach parties by night. The last night I went to take my hair out, it wouldn’t budge. The extensions were so matted that I couldn’t even remove the hair tie.”
After Ellen called Lisa in a panic, and after Lisa took out the matted mess, and showed Ellen the correct techniques behind untangling, brushing and washing hair extensions, Ellen continued to wear the same hair extensions for another full year. www.oohlalahairextensions.com.au
“I often see girls and women with hair extensions that they’re not sure how to take care of. Probably the most common mistake people make when wearing hair extensions is to use hairspray and the wrong styling products, shampoos and conditioners on them, and that’s what happened to Ellen,” says Lisa. “The best products for hair extensions lend the hair life, and doesn’t build up like glue on the extensions which causes them to tangle, and feel dry and matted.”
Ooh La La Hair Extensions uses Shrinkies hair extensions with a unique fastening technique that’s tried and true. “After years and years of trialling every type of hair extension available, we’ve had the most success with Shrinkies. To date, we’ve had 100 per cent positive feedback, and when our clients are happy, then we’re happier too,” says Lisa.
