Melbourne Industrial Furniture Designer and Builder, Custom Industrial Announces New Thomastown Display Showroom
Melbourne industrial furniture designer announces the opening of a new on-site showroom, which will showcase unique industrial works and provide a space for creative collaboration.
Society has somehow pushed timeless and handcrafted skills aside, but people are starting to seek out craftsmen and women who make things with their hands over mass produced items. This new showroom will help people to gain a deeper understanding of the whole design process, and inspire a lot of people to creatively push the boundaries and think outside the box.
Custom Industrial has just joined the list of exciting upcoming Melbourne events, with a new showroom opening announcement this week. The showroom, Showhaus, will open once a month to display upcycled furniture and custom built pieces, and provide a space for creative collaboration between artists, designers and clients.
Custom Industrial’s founder, Durwin Lambe says, “There’s been a huge demand lately from Melbourne’s creative community and also clients, for a space to sample products, view parts and pieces in my creative environment for possible upcycled furniture and lighting, and collaborate on a piece. So I wanted to embody those needs and desires to provide a place to be comfortable in without the pushy sales feeling that people often experience in mass produced furniture stores.” www.customindustrial.com.au
The Melbourne industrial furniture designer felt inspired to open Showhaus after he noticed a distinct lack of creative spaces for artists and commissioning clients to brainstorm, collaborate and design custom-made and upcycled furniture, fixtures and stand-out unique pieces for businesses and homes.
“For clients, Showhaus creates an opportunity to come and meet me in my creative environment, sample pieces on display, search for industrial items or show me their own unique additions they’d like to incorporate into a piece. It’s a place for collaboration so I can produce something beyond their expectations,” says Melbourne industrial furniture designer, Durwin.
“And for my creative colleagues, it’s a space to brainstorm solutions and discuss joint commissions. Everything I design and build at Custom Industrial is limited, unique and very personal and client specific. So it’s really important to me that the creative process isn’t just a formality to get to the end product; it’s an experience. The more connected I am to the client, the more personal and in tune the piece is that I create.”
Durwin designs, innovates and creates upcycled furniture and lighting fixtures for homes and businesses, and specialises in making commissioned custom-made and personalised items for his clients. “Society has somehow pushed timeless and handcrafted skills aside, but people are starting to seek out craftsmen and women who make things with their hands over mass produced items,” says Durwin. “This new showroom will help people to gain a deeper understanding of the whole design process, and inspire a lot of people to creatively push the boundaries and think outside the box. It’s really exciting!” www.customindustrial.com.au
The Showhaus is open on the first Saturday of every month from 10am til 4pm, and by appointment for all other times. To learn more about the Melbourne industrial furniture designer and Showhaus, the new showroom at Custom Industrial, visit www.customindustrial.com.au.
About Custom Industrial
Custom Industrial is a unique furniture and lighting design company specialising in the re-purposing of old machinery, parts and unusual items into exclusive pieces. Everything Custom Industrial creates is individual, using timeless craftsmanship. Their products are made to last using the best measure of both time-honoured techniques blended with modern day efficiencies.
The business was born from a love of the unique and interesting, and influenced by the founder’s family history working in and around the wharves, surrounded by patina worn, heavy industrial machinery. Combining this with skills gained in the building and timber industries, a passion was fuelled for turning the unusual and unique into custom pieces of furniture and lighting that captured the feeling of those childhood memories.
