Handy Backup 7.7 – Advanced System Recovery, Hot Hyper-V Backup and Keeping Native Data Attributes

Novosoft, LLC releases the version 7.7 of its best-selling software solution, Handy Backup. This new version includes the hot backup for Hyper-V virtual machines, the completely new “System Recovery” data option allowing working with separate data on the disk image instead of the copy of an entire drive. In addition, it preserves any information backed up with original file (folder) attributes including the date and time of last changing, making browsing backups with external tools even more comfortable than in previous versions.

Handy Backup 7.7 contains a completely new System Recovery tool. This tool allows saving an image of the system to a VHD format, used by VirtualBox software as system image files. This file can be opened later to browse or pick some files inside the system image without a need for complete restoration of a system, or be mounted to a VirtualBox instance to run it as the system image on a virtual machine.

For users and administrators of Hyper-V virtual machines, the new version provides an improvement allowing “hot” backup of Hyper-V images. Based on the Volume Shadow Copying Service (VSS), this instrument requires no stopping of a Hyper-V machine running when backup takes place. For big arrays of Hyper-V images, this solution can save much time and reduce overall efforts to make a set of actual Hyper-V copies.

Now the improved native format of data for backups allows keeping original set of file attributes when saving data copies, instead of overwriting these attributes. With an original set of file attributes preserved, user can find and use any single file needed much more quickly, implementing such tools as Windows Explorer or Total Commander for browsing backup folders. This advantage can be crucial for some users who have a regular need to find and restore just a couple of files from the backup set, instead of restoring it completely on a constant basis.

In addition, the new version 7.7 of Handy Backup has many overall improvements of speed, efficiency and reliability. As an example, this version includes a renewed algorithm for a “Network” tool, with a significantly improved reliability for backing up shared network data.
