Taoyuan County Education Network Center Deploys Market-leading Secure Access SSL VPN

SUNNYVALE, Calif., September 11, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that 240 schools served by Taiwan’s Taoyuan County Education Network Center (TCENC) have secured and assured their wireless communications network with the Juniper Networks Secure Access 6000 (SA 6000) appliances.

TCENC provides data center services and Internet connectivity for education institutions in its region. TCENC selected the SA 6000 SSL VPN platforms to provide centralized secure remote mobile access to its campus wireless network, which offers voice, data, video and other services. The SA 6000 was chosen for its ease of use and comprehensive security features.

“The wireless campus initiative was the impetus for raising our security posture with the Juniper solution,” said Chuang Shih-kai, head network engineer of Education Network Center, Bureau of Education, Taoyuan County Government. “Basic security measures were not sufficient for this deployment because the pervasive nature of wireless access demands stringency in authentication, access management, and defense from man-in-the-middle attacks.”

The Juniper Networks Secure Access 6000 SSL VPN makes it possible for organizations to deploy cost-effective secure access, extranet, and intranet security. The use of SSL eliminates the need for client-software deployment and costly on-going client maintenance or changes to internal servers. The Secure Access 6000 appliance also offers sophisticated partner or customer extranet features that enable controlled access to differentiated users and groups, with no infrastructure changes, no DMZ deployments, and no software agents. This functionality allows secure access to the corporate intranet, so that administrators can restrict access to different students, employees or contractors, based on the resources they require.

The SA 6000 is designed for large enterprises and features best-in-class performance, scalability, and redundancy for organizations with high-volume secure access and authorization requirements. Its hardware platform is designed to scale to the largest enterprise deployments and to optimize application delivery, with available options that include redundant hot swappable hard disks, power supplies and fans, as well as GBIC-based multiple Ethernet ports for redundant or meshed configurations. The SA 6000 also features a state-of-the-art SSL acceleration chipset to speed CPU-intensive encrypt/decrypt processes, as well as built-in compression for all traffic.

“The SA 6000 provides secure access to this ambitious wireless network deployment, which promises to safely increase the learning experience and productivity of Taiwanese students,” said Eric Lin, Juniper’s Taiwan country manager. “By streamlining deployment and administration, the Secure Access platform allows large organizations, such as TCENC, to rapidly reap the benefits of mobility without sacrificing efficiency, security or incurring heavy expenses.”
