We hope this kind of reporting will play a role in triggering action to protect our natural resources.” -Rob Dunlop, KCTS 9 President and CEO

Wildlife Detectives: The Poaching of Puget Sound, a KCTS 9 Digital Studios production in partnership with EarthFix, has been honored with the 2015 WCFF Award for Best Wildlife Crime Film.

“We’re thrilled by this recognition from the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival – an international organization dedicated to shining a light on outstanding environmental journalism,” said Rob Dunlop, KCTS 9 President and CEO. “Illegal harvesting of shellfish is a huge issue in our region. We hope this kind of reporting will play a role in triggering action to protect our natural resources.”

The Wildlife Conservation Film Festival is held October 16-25 in New York, NY and brings together more than 85 films representing more than 30 countries and 25 international filmmakers, scientists and conservationists. In addition to the WCFF award, the documentary has also been accepted into the Friday Harbor Film Festival; the Social Justice Film Festival in Seattle; and featured nationally on the PBS NewsHour

Wildlife Detectives: The Poaching of Puget Sound tells the story of the Pacific Northwest’s most poachable marine resources: mussels, oysters and geoduck clams. These delicacies are highly lucrative; making them susceptible to illegal overharvesting that can drive a species to extinction. Led by Emmy Award-winning journalist Katie Campbell, the EarthFix team followed local wildlife officers’ efforts for more than a year as they work to protect the public’s health, Puget Sound shellfish and Northwest wildlife.
