Belle’s Big Day Comes to Elkmont

Running with the Goats and Southern ReInvention Celebrate Southern Spirit

Elkmont, Alabama – WEBWIRE

Belle Chevre is always thinking of fun ways to get the South to engage with the wonderful town of Elkmont and the southern charm it has to offer. Hosting a fun run on the Richard Martin Rails-to-Trails is a perfect way to do that.

Belle Chevre, one of the country’s most awarded and acclaimed artisan goat cheese creameries announced today that it will combine two of its annual events to celebrate “Belle’s Big Day” on Saturday, October 10, in downtown Elkmont, Alabama.

Sponsored in part by Fleet Feet Sports, Pepsi and the Alabama Department of Tourism, the second annual Running with the Goats 10k, 5k and Fun Run is a spirited, fun take on Pamplona, Spain’s annual running of the bulls. A fast, certified course on a shaded trail will host the 10k and 5k runs and then, runners can test their speed against kids and goats in the Fun Run Goat Relay. The race trail is part of the Rails-to-Trails initiative – converted train tracks that were once used to ship cotton from the historic warehouse that is now home to the creamery.

“Belle Chevre is always thinking of fun ways to get the South to engage with the wonderful town of Elkmont and the southern charm it has to offer. Hosting a fun run on the Richard Martin Rails-to-Trails is a perfect way to do that,” says Belle Chevre President Tasia Malakasis.

Belle Chevre is also excited to combine Running with the Goats with their 3rd annual Southern ReInvention, which kicks off after the races at 10 a.m. Celebrating southern artisans and the creativity of the South, the event promotes crafters of unique food, drink, art, fashion, and literature that resonates with a clear southern identity.

From the Southern Living pop-up store and Marc Nelson’s small-batch craft denim to cheesemaking and artisan teas, the day will be full of the best the South has to offer. Malakasis says, “Southern artisans have so much to offer and we love sharing our time with and celebrating those who, like Belle Chevre, craft goods with love and care.”
